It's hard to think that Torden and I have been away from home for 4 weeks. Time just flew by, and I still never got to do everything I wanted, see everybody I wanted to see and can you believe, I never had enough time to do all my shopping, especially for food! As I sit here now, only just 2 days in Kinshasa, I crave some things that I left behind. Like fresh tomatoes, and lettuce and all the other toss salad ingredients. I went shopping today, and most of the vegetables are double the price than before I left, or not looking too good. I really felt like potatoes with my weber chicken tonight, but no, they're all wrinkled and soft. I really felt like crunching a cucumber, but they are probably out of season. I actually think, there are a lot of expats out of town for Easter, so the shops are not as stocked as usual.
I really wanted to bring home some lamb chops and boerewors for Paul but never got to even buy that on the last minute. Call me disorganised, but I felt it was more important to spend time with my family.
I started my first French lesson yesterday, and was really " vrot"! So I told my tutor to come back next week, so it will give me some time to refresh. I also lent him "The Idiots's Guide to French" as his Alliance Francaise books are really old. So he has some new learning material for Paul and I to work with. We had a long conversation ( in English) about how many young people aspire to study in SA, but most of them cannot afford it. It makes me think about how much a lot of our young people take for granted.
Well that's enough for my first blog on my return.
Hope you are all " chocolate smashed" from Easter!
